IN-RING SEGMENT

NXT Champion kicked off the night to a hero’s welcome, for the first time since his successful (albeit grueling) defense at NXT Takeover: Chicago. He talked about having to overcome adversity his entire life, and last Saturday night adversity’s name was Lars Sullivan.

Before he could continue, Tommaso Ciampa wandered out to the stage to no music, as the fans rained down boos on him. He sarcastically congratulated the champion on retaining at Takeover, and for overcoming his “adversity”, but now it’s time for him to come face-to-face with “the devil” of NXT. He bragged about defeating Johnny Freaking Wrestling in Chicago with one hand tied behind his back, which in his mind means he should be next in line for a title shot. Black seemed down for the challenge, as long as it was approved by General Manager William Regal, and Ciampa left after promising to make his championship reign “fade to black”.

EARLIER TODAY

Vanessa Borne was interviewed outside of the Performance Center, but refused to actually answer any questions. She asked if anybody in the audience knew why Kairi Sane dressed like a pirate, saying that it doesn’t make any sense. She trashed Kairi for being childish and promised to drag it out of her in the ring and make a statement to the NXT women’s roster.

KONA REEVES vs. MAX HUMBERTO

The crowd chanted for Humberto before the match began, pretty much out of spite for his opponent. Reeves chucked him to the outside and bounced his opponent off the apron and the barricade, before rolling back into the ring and stomping a mudhole in the corner. Humberto had a very brief attempt at offense before getting kicked in the face. Reeves hit the Hawaiian Drop and that’s all she wrote.

Winner: Kona Reeves

– They showed footage of Mustache Mountain winning the NXT Tag Team Championships from the Undisputed Era at last night’s WWE UK Championship Tournament event in London. The brand new champions are here, and the will be in action tonight!

CANDICE LERAE vs. LACEY EVANS

Lacey controlled the early going, working over her opponent with some brutal submissions. Every time Candice got close to escaping, Evans would kick away at her shoulder and even slammed it into the ring most multiple times, then went back to work with rest holds and submissions. She’s got a lot more character in the ring now, screaming at the ref to “ask her!” during holds – shades of the great Chris Jericho. Candice eventually worked her way back into the match and threw a few dropkicks, trying to avoid falling on the bad shoulder. She hit a big elbow strike with the good arm and came off the second rope with a flying bulldog, picking up a two-count. LeRae hit a springboard moonsault and picked up the victory.

Winner: Candice LeRae

BACKSTAGE

Johnny Gargano was shown watching his wife’s match on a monitor in the locker room. He said that Candice LeRae was his favorite wrestler, but right now it was a little hard to concentrate. Johnny reflected on his second match with Ciampa and said he was haunted by the image of his former best friend spitting on his wedding ring and throwing it into the crowd, and suffering the humiliation of then losing to that man. He promised that things were not over between the two of them, and he WILL get another shot if it means they fight in the ring, backstage, in the parking lot, at the grocery store, or in the streets.

We see a message from William Regal who said that Johnny Gargano needs to “move on” from Ciampa and focus on his future, and therefor next week he will face EC3 in singles competition.

MUSTACHE MOUNTAIN vs. DAVE DIXON & CARL AXELROD

Before the match could get started, The Undisputed Era came out and attacked Dave Dixon and Carl Axelrod. After completely destroying the Performance Center stars, Roderick Strong cut a promo saying that what happened at Royal Albert Hall in London was a complete fluke, and since they’re back in the United States the match shouldn’t even count.

Adam Cole said there were no more UK stars in the back, and that means Mustache Mountain don’t have anymore help, promising to send them back to England without the tag team titles. Before the two teams could go at it, Ricochet’s music hit and the high-flying sensation sprinted down to the ring to make the save and even the odds. This lead to – you guessed it- a six-man tag team match!

UNDISPUTED ERA vs. RICOCHET & MUSTACHE MOUNTAIN

The babyfaces spent the first few minutes working over Roderick Strong, until all hell broke lose and the six guys brawled around ringside. The chaos allowed the Undisputed Era to take control, alternating in with quick tags and stomping away on the smallest guy in the match, Tyler Bate. Strong slowed things down with some mean strikes to the back of the neck and locked in a half-straight jacket submission for quite awhile. Cole came in to shake things up a tad, locking in a side headlock until the crowd worked Bate back into the match, only to run right into a running shoulder tackle.

The beating continued for several minutes, with O’Reilly even yanking at Bate’s mustache and Strong doing a blatant fishhook right in front of the referee. That man has some of the hardest elbow strikes in the business… After what seemed like an eternity Tyler finally made the hot tag to Ricochet, who flew all around the ring taking everybody down. He hit O’Reilly with a headscissors takedown before dropping the other two withs stereo DDTs, and finished it all off with a modified 619 around the ring post! Ricochet hit a springboard crossbody splash, but only got a two-count.

O’Reilly out of nowhere locked in a front-mounted choke hold, but they were too close to the babyface corner and Trent Seven made the tag to save his partner. He dropped KOR with a Michinoku Driver and tried for a ripcord knee strike, but Strong had made the blind tag and destroyed him with a Ushigoroshi immediately folllowed by a penalty kick to the chest. Cole tagged in looking to put the match away as things broke down on the outside, but he ran right into an absolutely insane lariat from Trent! Ricochet got the tag and dropped Cole with another Michinoku Driver, and suddenly everyone hit the ring doing a series of crazy signature moves; eventually they all hit superkicks, and all six men were down.

After even more chaos that’s impossible to keep track of, Ricochet literally did a Matrix style backflip to avoid being superkicked in the face, then did another one to avoid a kick from Strong. He hit Cole with a modified Flatliner and went up top looking for the 630 splash, connecting with it. Ricochet made the cover, but O’Reilly grabbed Cole’s foot and dragged him out of the ring at the very last second. He did a suicide dive through the ropes to take them out, but Strong caught him and connected with a nasty version of the End of Heartache on the ring apron, rolling him back inside. Cole covered, got the three, and that’s all folks!
