It’s been known for months now that Dalton Castle has been working through a myriad of injuries, which has seen him pulled from multiple Ring of Honor tours, and his in-ring load drastically altered.
When the 32-year-old superstar won the ROH World Championship back in December he was the hottest rising babyface in the promotion and it was generally seen as the right move, at the right time, with the right guy, despite how hot Cody Rhodes’ title reign was at the time. However, the seemingly never-ending string of injuries has kept him out of working a lot of big singles matches, and when the triple threat match was announced for last weekend’s ROH Best in the World pay-per-view, it was assumed that either Cody or “The Villain” Marty Scurll would be taking the title.

As it turned out, Castle retained at Best in the World to the shock of many (the poll we conducted had him hovering around 15% to win). He then turned around and dropped the world title to Jay Lethal the following night at the Fairfax Excellence television tapings, in a bout that was almost immediately uploaded online for Honor Club subscribers.
While we knew the leader of “Peacock Nation” was dealing with some injuries, we had no idea just how severe the problems were. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Castle is currently suffering from “a herniated disc in his lower back, a fractured lower back, a displaced hip a left hamstring injury and well as a broken hand,” if the new report from Dave Meltzer is accurate.
Obviously Dalton will be needing some time off after losing the Ring of Honor title, although there’s no news yet on if surgery will be required or how long he might be out of action. The fact that he worked through the recent tours and defended the title twice in 24 hours last weekend, through all of those injuries, is a miracle in itself.
