The book club queen is returning to her rightful throne, on TV. Apple has announced entertainment powerhouse, Oprah Winfrey, is bringing her famed book club, Oprah’s Book Club, to Apple’s highly-anticipated streaming service, Apple TV+, which is set to launch on November 1.

Ahead of the November 1 launch — when Oprah’s Book Club will premiere on the streamer — Winfrey has already announced, per a press statement from Apple, her first book club pick.

According to the press statement, Winfrey’s first pick — which no doubt will be added to global reading lists immediately — is The Water Dancer by Ta-Nehisi Coates (the book is available for pre-order now on Apple Books).

And, in a philanthropic twist, Apple has pledged that for every one of Oprah’s Book Club book selections sold on Apple Books, the tech company will “make a contribution to the American Library Association” to support local libraries in the US.

Winfey will not only be making book recommendations but will also be interviewing the authors of the books and per the press statement, these interviews will be filmed at various locations — some in front of live audiences — before becoming available to watch on Apple TV+. Winfrey’s first interview with The Water Dancer’s author, Ta-Nehisi Coates, for instance, is slated to take place in front of a live audience at Apple Carnegie Library in Washington, D.C., next month.

“I am who I am today because of the experience of learning to read at an early age,” Winfrey said in the press announcement. “Reading opened up a whole world for me beyond the red dirt road and my grandmother’s porch in Mississippi. I want to do that for everybody. And the opportunity to do this with Apple, to speak to people all over the world about the pleasures, the excitement, the tension, the drama that a good book can bring you… I don’t know what’s better than that.”

According to the statement, a new episode of Oprah’s Book Club will be available on Apple TV+ every two months, with the first premiering, as noted previously, on the platform when it launches on November 1.
