At the 71st Emmy Awards, which took place at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles on September 22 (September 23 in Australia), it would seem that attendees took heed of the trends that ruled the red carpet at the 2019 Academy Awards some months ago.
While pink proved popular on the red carpet at the Oscars, it was a combination of both pink and red that surfaced as a crowd favourite at the 2019 Emmys Awards. And while many opted for either pink or red ensembles, a surprising number of guests paired the two hues together for a winning combination.
In what we’re assuming was an unplanned move, five guests walked the red carpet in the rather romantic color pairing, which we’re now eager to copy. Funnily enough, two of said guests were co-stars Mandy Moore (above) and Susan Kelechi Watson, who both took to Instagram with images from the red carpet highlighting the coincidence.
“Always happy to be here and twinning with my girl, @susankelechiwatson.? Thanks for having us @televisionacad! #Emmys,” Moore caption her post. Similarly, Watson wrote: “No one else Id rather twin with❤?❤?! Emmy nominee @mandymooremm ? #Emmys #thisisus.”
While both the bust and off-the-shoulder sleeves of Moore’s predominantly red Brandon Maxwell gown featured pink detailing, it was only the billowy sleeves of Watson’s Badgley Mischka dress that featured the blush-toned hue.
In addition to the pair of This Is Us actors, Taraji P. Henson, Zoe Kazan and Marisa Tomei joined in on the trend. Kazan opted for an incredibly chic pink, red and black Gucci gown, Henson wore a pink Vera Wang dress featuring red sleeves, and Tomei wore a Ralph & Russo number that twisted the combination of colours from the shoulder to the thigh-high split.
