Our nostalgia for great ’90s and ’00s TV shows and films knows no end. From Beverly Hills, 90210 to Lizzie McGuire, Practical Magic and Gossip Girl, classic favourites are coming back in droves. And now, it might finally be time for the Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants to finally have its own revival moment.
Reigniting our excitement for the long-waiting third film installment, America Ferrera—who played the outspoken Carmen Lowell in the first two movies—recently shared an update about the possibility of a Sisterhood revival.
“That is a conversation that’s still at play,” she told Entertainment Tonight. “Fingers crossed that something comes to fruition with that, but it’s been a vision and a dream of ours for a while now.”
Continuing, Ferrera noted that while the lives of each of the film’s starring ladies—including Blake Lively, Alexis Bledel and Amber Tamblyn— have changed so dramatically since they wrapped the second film, each of them still have a “vision and dream” to continue the story of a friendship strengthened by a magical pair of pants.
“We’re all moms now,” she said. “We’ve all got a lot going on, but we’ve got a beautiful friendship and we love these movies and we love this story and our friendship together [and] the friendship of these girls. So, we’re sticking with it and we’ll see what happens.”
Ferrera also confirmed what we’d all hoped, that the four of them have remained as close as they were after filming the first movie: “Our friendship now has gone on and involved so much more than the films we did together, that I sometimes forget that they’re my Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants [co-stars,]” she said.
“They’re just my friends! But it is incredibly special to have a group of women [who] we all met in our early [years]—Blake was still a teenager! We’ve been a really big part of each other’s lives and our journeys and it’s really beautiful and I feel so lucky to have them.”
Of course, the actress’s most recent confirmation isn’t the only time one of the film series’s four leading ladies has spoken out about the likelihood of another film.
Talking to Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show back in April 2018, Bledel let slip there is a third movie potentially in the works, confirming the stars of the show have pitched a third film. “We just pitched a third movie,” she said. “I hope it comes together. It’ll be so great! I would love it.”
According to Bledel, the four original stars, Blake Lively, America Ferrera and Amber Tamblyn, have been talking about a third movie for “years” since the first film was released in 2005.
Confirming the cast still hang out, Bledel said although they don’t get to see other often, it’s always a lot of fun when they do get together. “We don’t get to see each other a lot because everybody’s work and family and everything. But when everyone is in town we do,” she said.
The foursome had an excitement-inducing catch up earlier the same year, ringing in the New Year with a visit to a pregnant America Ferrera, posting this Instagram to celebrate the moment.
So what would a Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants 3 look like? We’re guessing kids, the school run and probably some jumping off cliffs in Greece, if Lena has anything to do with it.
