Where to shop in London according to a fashion designer

As the founder of Kowtow, the New Zealand-based sustainable label worn by cool girls around the world, Gosia Piatek knows a thing or two about shopping. As a local of London, Piatek has been shopping the cobbled streets of the British capital for some time now, seeking inspiration and enjoying the best the city has to offer. From where to get the coolest ceramics to even where to buy fresh groceries, Piatek has rounded up her go-to haunts below — where to stop for lunch included.

Twentytwentyone

I always pop into Twentytwentyone (near Ottolenghi in Islington). I adore their selection of minimal and handmade homewares, from furniture, lighting and art. We have their Hotaru Buoy lamps in our Wellington flagship store.

Liberty London

Going to Liberty London is always a treat — especially before Christmas to soak in the Christmas lights and the atmosphere. I love the pop up Christmas shop and it’s always a treat to buy one or two pretty decorations for the Christmas tree that feel like a real treasure.

The Tate Gift Shop

Brilliant for gifts. I love their selection of art books and they have a great kids section.

Maud & Mabel

I love Hampstead and being near the heath. It’s London’s secret wilderness, and my son attends a forest kindy there. After I drop him off I sometimes work remotely from a café and always stop by for a look at Maud & Mabel. They sell the most amazing ceramics, the shapes and glazes are perfect and it fills me with inspiration.

Petersham Nurseries

An amazing destination to get out of the city. It is an incredibly curated plant nursery with beautiful homewares, incredible plants, a gorgeous restaurant.

Planet Organic

Planet Organic is great for organic and healthy produce. I love their juices and smoothies and their bulk bin section so I can avoid single-use plastic.

Towpath

One of my favourite cafes in East London. I love the canal location, simple and delicious food, great coffee and people watching for inspiration. It’s also super close to our London studio, so a nice place to take a bit of time out from the work day.

Ottolenghi

For brunch my favourite spot is Ottolenghi in Islington for the shakshuka eggs. I also love their home made spreads, it’s seriously next level delicious.
