How Savage x Fenty and Amazon Fashion will change the way you shop

Landing at JFK airport earlier this week (sporting a cabin-approved Delvaux micro bag) for her Savage x Fenty presentation at New York Fashion Week, Rihanna is on a statement-making roll. A celebration of racial diversity and gender inclusivity, the lingerie show – shrouded in secrecy – was a first of its kind and is set to be streamed on Amazon Prime from September 20.

One of the most anticipated shows on the NYFW schedule, the autumn/winter ’19/’20 collection shown at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on September 10 had a “nontraditional” format (so read the invitation). Rihanna kicked off proceedings, dressed in black and surrounded by dancers and actors on spotlit plinths. Models including Cara Delevingne, Gigi and Bella Hadid, 21 Savage, Alek Wek, Joan Smalls, Laverne Cox and Slick Woods walked the set, as special musical performances took place throughout.

Big Sean and A$AP Ferg performed a mix of and ; Migos entertained audiences with while Normani, Aquaria, Paloma Elsesser and Christian Combs hit the runway. Halsey debuted her new single , plus DJ Khaled, Fat Joe, Fabolous and Tierra Whack gave a mashup of , , and . The show ended on a carnival-themed high.

As with last year’s debut, Rihanna’s star-studded cast was a celebration of bodies of all shapes and sizes, with the singer saying earlier this year: “We want to make people look good and feel good. We want you to feel sexy and have fun doing it.” As part of her mission to reach and include as many people as possible, the Savage x Fenty show will start streaming on Amazon Prime, in more than 200 countries and territories, from September 20.

Rihanna’s designs are game-changing, too. Presenting sexy as an attitude and as a statement of individuality, Savage x Fenty is steering the lingerie industry away from a conformist ‘one size fits all’ approach. “My vision for Savage x Fenty has always been inclusivity […] having women feel confident and expressing themselves,” said Rihanna in a behind-the-scenes video for Amazon.

By now, the Fenty empire is known for its inclusivity, from the groundbreaking breadth of shades offered by Fenty Beauty to the sizing options of Rihanna’s LVMH-backed Fenty fashion line. Savage x Fenty ranges from comfortable leisurewear to ornate satin and lace, available in multiple tones, ranging from 32A-42H, and XS-3X.
