On this week’s edition of SmackDown Live, the first show for the blue brand following Sunday night’s SummerSlam pay-per-view, the next contender to WWE Champion Dean Ambrose emerged.
At the brand’s first exclusive pay-per-view, WWE Backlash, AJ Styles will go one-on-one with Ambrose for the WWE Championship, a spot he earned on Tuesday night’s show while the WWE champ sat ringside watching.
After the match, Styles and Ambrose had a face-off, starting the rivalry and the hype for the brand’s first exclusive pay-per-view main event.
WWE posted the following clip on Twitter from Tuesday’s SmackDown Live, which features Styles earning the rights to face Ambrose and the face-off at ringside between the two that followed.
WWE Backlash takes place on Sunday, September 11, 2016 from the Richmond Coliseum in Richmond, Virginia, and will air live via pay-per-view and the WWE Network.
