Not only will the 12/18 chapter of the “Wednesday Night Wars” feature the AEW World Championship in action with Chris Jericho competing in his final AEW match of 2019 against Jungle Boy at AEW Dynamite in Corpus Christi, Texas, it will feature a title defense by the NXT Women’s Champion.
On this week’s WWE NXT program it was announced that “The Queen of Spades” Shayna Baszler will be defending her NXT Women’s Championship in a highly-anticipated showdown against former NXT UK Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley.
Fans of the black-and-gold brand have been eager to see the Baszler-Ripley showdown for weeks now, a dream match of sorts that was fueled by Ripley pinning the NXT Women’s Champion to win the Women’s WarGames match for her team at the NXT TakeOver: WarGames 2019 live WWE Network special during WWE Survivor Series 2019 Weekend.
Baszler’s current reign as the NXT Women’s Champion has been an impressive one, as she has been the top dog in the NXT women’s division since capturing the title from Kairi Sane at the WWE Evolution all-women’s pay-per-view back in October of 2018.
