There’s something wonderful about sleeping in a hotel bed. Usually bigger than your own, hotel beds have the sort of fluffy, all-encompassing sheets that only come with spending the night in a hotel. From the QT’s particularly snuggly gel beds to the Sofitel’s signature featherbed topper, luxury hotels go to great lengths to ensure guests get a good night’s sleep.
A.H Beard mattresses, who count hotels like Wolgan Valley Spa and Resort, the Old Clare in Sydney and Jackalope Hotel in Melbourne as loyal customers, are all about bringing that luxurious bedroom feeling into your own home. With a focus on total comfort, the Australian company knows a thing or two about ensuring your own bed is just as cosy and snuggly as the country’s best hotels. Below, experts from A.H Beard give their five tips to mastering that luxury hotel feeling at home.

Quality comes first
When you can, invest in quality sheets and pillow slips. Through buying the best linen you can afford you’re allowing your bedroom to become the most comfortable room in the house. While a higher thread count means the sheets will be more durable and of a higher quality, too high a thread count inhibits the breathability of the sheets and can make you hot. Choose a brand like Bed Threads or In Bed who sell linen direct-to-consumer, making it both affordable and indulgent. Beautiful linen will uplift your space, adding style, comfort and class.

Get the bed right
The best way to test a bed is to have a few nights in it. We have worked with many of Australia’s leading hotels to custom-make their beds. Some luxury mattresses are so popular with guests that many of the hotels have now made them available for guests to purchase.

Maintenance is key
To keep your bed at optimum comfort level you’ll need to do some light maintenance every now and then. Although most mattresses are single side, so don’t require flipping, you should rotate your mattress end to end every two weeks for the first four months. After this you’ll just need to rotate it monthly to ensure even wear. Invest in a good quality mattress protector to protect your mattress and add another layer of comfort.

Layers, layers, layers!
A luxurious bed doesn’t stop with a fitted sheet, top sheet and comforter. Special touches such as bed skirts, fluffy pillows and beautiful quilt covers go a really long way.

The final touches…
If a job’s worth doing, it’s worth doing well. Now that you’ve achieved a bed of luxury hotel standards, go the extra step and invest in a comfortable robe and slippers to perfectly finish off the hotel experience.
Next, set the mood. Hotel rooms often have soft lighting, which helps prepare you for a good night’s sleep. If you don’t have lights that dim, not to worry. Turn of your main lights and switch on a soft lamp.

Prepare yourself for sleep by dimming the lights and running a bath with your favourite oils. Leave your phone to charge and pick up a book instead while you enjoy some sleep-friendly snacks and a soothing cup of tea.
